The Aruba (HPE) J4858D is a 1 Gbps SFP (Small Form-Factor Pluggable) transceiver module designed for multi-mode fiber (MMF) applications using the 1000Base-SX standard. It supports a duplex LC connector and operates at a nominal wavelength of 850 nm, delivering reliable Gigabit Ethernet or 1G Fiber Channel connectivity
The module is hot-swappable, allowing for safe insertion and removal without disrupting device operation. It supports Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM)—also known as Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM)—enabling real-time tracking of operational parameters like temperature, optical power, and voltage.
In terms of reach, it supports up to 500 m over OM2 fiber (50/125 µm), with practical ranges up to 550 m depending on fiber quality—longer distances are feasible on OM3/OM4 fibers Additionally, it supports shorter distances on legacy MMF: 275 m on OM1 (62.5/125 µm)
It complies with MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) and safety standards including CE, RoHS, FDA and IEC60825-1 Class 1 laser certification. It is compatible with a wide range of Aruba and HPE switches, including the 2530, 2920, 2930F, 3810M series and more
